what happens when you start saying no

The power of No hit me hugely this summer.

I have been asserting some strong boundaries in my midlife, especially since burnout number 3.

As a high achiever who drives myself forward constantly, strong boundaries have always been something I have had to be conscious of and in the last few years, become passionate about.

I am an unconventional creative being, but this doesn’t exclude me from being a high achiever too. You see, I have created so much, that at times what drives me forward is historical, I have achieved so much in the past and some of that urgency has stayed, like a constant reminder of how much I can do and how much I am capable of.

But you know what - I am walking away from it all.

I am going to be 50 next year and this milestone is what is driving me forward now, because I am walking forwards into the beginning of exactly how I mean to go on in life.

Saying no - a lot.

Life now is about deepening what is already there, yes to new experiences but only if they nourish me. And just because I can make huge things happen - it doesn’t mean I should.

THAT has been my biggest lesson dear Soulful Woman - that just because I can it doesn’t mean I need to, have to or want to.

And saying no is like an avalanche. Or a cascade. It becomes bigger and stronger as it picks up momentum.

This summer I say NO to everything, I am letting go of SO much I am amazed at how much I have been doing for decades, doing so much that I didn’t even know I was doing it I became so good at it.

And doing it well too.

But no is not about that, what happens when I say no? I relax, I breathe deeply, I become present, I live in the moment, I open up to the richness of living, I create in a different way. I create the SPACE TO BE.

And I am loving it. All of my summer I am creating that space and regrouping gently, with love, with space, with time.

I cannot WAIT to invite in the new, with no agenda, no deadline, no outcome, just new, a new beginning.
